A wedding is one of the happiest moments in anyone’s life. It’s the time when your happily-ever-after starts with the one you love. And in every milestone, family and friends ought to be invited for them to be able to celebrate it with you. But are wedding invitations a thing of the past?

Every time someone asks me if wedding invites are still relevant, I always answer them – without batting an eyelash – that it’s very, very important. Nowadays, we can already send an e-vite or an electronic invitation, which is extremely convenient. But, really, that’s about it. Weddings aren’t about convenience, it’s about celebrating something that’s pure and unadulterated. It’s YOUR wedding! Therefore, you should be able to communicate how special and significant it is for you.

Wedding invitations aren’t just paper notices – they serve as the first impression that your guests will have on your wedding. And mind you, first impressions almost always last. Think of it as a preview to your wedding. How do you want your guests to feel when they receive an invite?

Do you want them to get excited about your wedding? Do you want them to feel special to be part of your love story? If you answered Yes on both questions, then a wedding invitation is in order; and not just any wedding invitation, but a wedding invitation that’s fitting, beautiful, and unique.

Aside from letting the guests know of the date, time, location, dress code, etc., an invitation sets the tone of what the guests should expect. They should be able to taste the wedding – color scheme, theme, overall feel – even if it happens in 6 months or so. You should be able to build excitement and anticipation as it will ensure that your big day will be remembered.

But thing is, your guests will probably receive a number of wedding invitations. And chances are, a crappy invite will get tossed to the garbage bin first. Or will simply be forgotten. Hence, it is important to allocate enough time and attention in planning your wedding invitations. Put some thought into it, some effort. After all, it’s YOUR big day and an invite is a major part, so investing an extra effort shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

In planning the wedding invitation, think of how you want your guests to feel. Imagine being face-to-face with them: how do you want to let them know that they are invited to celebrate with you on your wedding day?

Miss Aileen, we’re both Catholics and are based in Sydney, Australia. We don’t have that much time to plan our wedding. Rather than have a church wedding, can we get a pastor and do a garden wedding instead?

A: We love garden weddings! In this case, however, having a pastor to officiate a garden wedding for two Catholics is something that’s not only impossible, it’s illegal. The (Philippine) law states that one of you (either the bride or the groom) has to be a Christian in order to do a Christian ceremony. Also, based on my experience, pastors do not perform wedding ceremonies of this nature. Unless you are going to tamper with the documentation which would render your marriage null and void, then this option is not possible.

Here’s my suggestion though – get civilly married instead. I mean, if your time is really that constrained, the next possible thing to do is to get a judge. This idea, however, entails a lengthy discussion. With 8 weddings lined up for May, it’s going be an amazing month for Weddings and Events Republic. Challenging you say? Perhaps. But there’s nothing my team isn’t up for. We are very blessed, to say the least; and why not when we have wonderful clients who are set to realize their dreams of a happy-ever-after.

It’s also going to be a busy month for my comrades in the wedding industry. Everyone seems to be on high-speed lately. To everybody who inquired, as much as we wanted to accommodate each one, but our May 8, 10, and 17 are already booked, even with my fellow suppliers’ calendars. Hmm, seems like those are the favorite dates this month.
